The deep story about Japanese sword (Part1)
This time, I would like to introduce the material of Japanese sword.
The material of Japanese sword is iron sand.
Most iron sword are made of iron ore, but Japanese sword is only iron sword which made of iron sand.
The reason why Japanese sword use iron sand is simple. Because iron ore is rare in Japan.
So, Japanese have to make a Japanese sword from iron sand.
The main material to make Japanese sword is called “Tamahagane”(玉鋼).
The production method of “Tamahagane” is really special.
The name of the method called “Tatara” and there is a only man named “murage” in each Tatara factory, who knows the method.
“Tatara” is start from construct the underground structure. Then, put the iron sand and charcoal to heating furnace which made of clay to heated up.
This process is continued for 3 consecutive days. And after this process, they put out the lump and put them into the water.
Then, crush them and take out Tamahagane.
It is said that this is the only way to make Tamahagane, even the steel manufacturing technology are improved.
The greatest feature of Japanese sword is “no break, no bend, and cut well” is owing to its material Tamahagane.
