Jizo 地蔵 (Child-guarding Boddhisattva)
Jizo [地蔵/じぞう] is one of the most popular Buddhist bodhisattvas in Japan.
DESCRIPTION
Jizo is the rock statue which is believed to be the guardian of the Earth who sabes all lining things after the death of Buddha, before the appearance of the benevolent bodhisattva. And also it is believed that “jizo” helps dead children go to the Buddhist equivalent of heaven. In this reason, many “jizo” statues wear a red baby’s cap and bib.
In Japanese shrines, you can see “jizo” statues.
