Enoshima 江ノ島
Enoshima is a famous touring spot in proximity of Kamakura City. You can have nice “Kaisendon” at this place.
DESCRIPTION
A trip to “Enoshima” takes about an hour from Tokyo by Train, which makes it fairly easy to access. There are many restaurants and souvenir shops there too.
In order to get to “Enoshima” we use the so-called “Eno-den”, which is a train that has a history of over a hundred years.
FOOD
“Kaisendon”
“Kaisendon”, as we mentioned earlier is the food which Enoshima is widely famous for. There are many kinds of “Kaisendon” but it is mainly consist of tuna, salmon, shrimp, yellowtail, conge and so on.
There are many “Kaisendon” restaurants in “Enoshima”. The place we can recommend most if you want to have a nice meal at a restaurant is “Tobiccho”“ とびっちょ”
In this restaurant there are always many people lined up to taste a voluminous portion of the “Kaisendon”,which has a very special taste to it.
TOURING SPOT
“Enoshima-Shrine”“ 江ノ島神社”
This shrine was constructed in 1747. Enshrined at this place there are supposed to be the three Venus-Sisters. Also the shrine is believed to be spreading safety and function as a guardian angel for any kind of marine or naval transportation, fishery and traffic. Also many samurai 侍 were worshipped at this place. Nowadays, people believe it to have an impact on your life in terms of luck, money and overall success. Also there is a sacred tree nearby, which is called the “marriage tree”. Because of this reason, many people attach all sorts of “Ema” 絵馬 there.
“Enoshima sea candle”
At the top of “Enoshima Island”, there is a garden which is named after an english merchant “Samuel Cocking”. This garden was cultivated in 1880. Inside of this garden, there is the so-called “Enoshima Sea Candle” located, which contains an observation platform from which you can catch a magnificent view over all the island from about 100m height.
Every winter season it is illuminated beautifully, which you can see below.
