Wasabi 山葵 (Japanese spicy Horseradish)
DESCRIPTION
Wasabi [山葵/わさび] is the Japanse horseradish, mainly used for “Sashimi” and “Sushi”.
“Wasabi” is the popular garnish along with “Karashi”.
“Karashi” is mainly used for fried and baked food, but “Karashi” is mainly used for raw food.
The taste of “Wasabi” is more hotter than horseradish, so it is loved by some and hated by others.
It is mainly used for “Sushi” and “Sashimi” with soy sauce. If you don’t want eat “Sushi” with “Wasabi”, you’d better say “Sabi-nuki”(Sushi without Wasabi).
To cultivate “Wasabi” is very difficult, because the need really clean water. So, the place of origin have clean running water.
Nowadays they can cultivate in field, but the size and flavor is inferior.
Nagano prefecture and Shizuoka prefecture are famous for producing “Wasabi”.
So, there are any foods which using “Wasabi”.
If you like hot food, you’d better eat “Wasabi pickles” which is good Nibbles for drinks.
