“Oita” prefecture is located in Kyushu region.
DESCRIPTION
“Oita” prefecture is famous for onsen.
The two major place is [Beppu onsen] and [Yufuin].
[Beppu onsen]
It is said that one tenth of the onsen source in Japan is in here [Beppu].
From the many steam from the onsen, it’s like you’re in hell.
From this, food which is steamed by the onsen, is called “Jigoku-mushi”(hell steamed).
Eggs, puddings, and seafoods are famous for “Jigoku-mushi” food.
Besides eating and going in the onsen, finding the eight “Jigoku onsen”.
Each onsen has a different character which leads to the strange naming.
1. “Chinoike-Jigoku”onsen(Blood pond onsen)
This is the most historical onsen in the eight “Jigoku onsen”. The feature of this onsen is red water.
The mud including iron oxide and magnesium oxide make it red.
2. “Tatsumaki-Jigoku”onsen(Tornado onsen)
This is famous for intermittent spring which blowout in half a minutes.
3. “Umi-Jigoku”(Ocean onsen)
This is the most biggest onsen in the eight “Jigoku onsen”.
The colour is cobalt blue, so the name of the hell is not good for this.
Also huge lotus leaf is very famous in this onsen.
4. “Onishi-Bozu-Jigoku”(Ogre rock Buddhist priest onsen)
The origin of the name is the gray heat mud boils looks like a shaved head.
5. “Yama-Jigoku”(Mountain onsen)
Huge emitting gas is finished from everywhere of the mountain.
6. “Kamado-Jigoku”(Oven onsen)
90℃ hot spring is flouring out with steam from fumarole.
Olden days, at the time of grand festival, people were cook rice by this steam.
7. “Oniyama-Jigoku”(Devil mountain onsen)
Another name of this onsen is “Crocodile” onsen. This is because around this onsen, there are breeding over 100 crocodiles to use the hot-spring-heat.
8. “Shiraike-Jigoku”(White pond onsen)
This onsen will change the colour by the drop of the pressure and temperature.
Normally the water is colorless and transparent but after you drop into onsen, the colour will turn pale.
