“Mama-chari” 【ママチャリ/ままちゃり】is the term for the bicycle which is mainly used in Japan.

Today we want to talk about the Japanese bicycle, “mama-chari”
It means, mom’s bicycle.
In English the rough equivalent would be city-bike.
The mama-chari is the most popular bicycle, compared with other mountain bikes or load bikes.
In many cities including the rural areas, the bicycle is the major means of transport.
The greatest feature of mama-chari is it’s high utility.
In japan, the utility is the most important aspect.
As you can see in the picture, it has a basket, a splash-guard, and several lights for safety and it can also carry a child.
It can be used for commuting, shopping, and to go to the restaurant and many more things.
And, there is also particularly remained infrastructure all around japan for biking.
